Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes With Marinara
All About These Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes With Marinara
If I’m ever at a restaurant and see fried green tomatoes on the menu, you’d be correct if you guessed that I’m likely to order them. Fried green tomatoes are one of my favorite appetizers! When my aunt gave me some fresh green tomatoes from her garden, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. In this recipe, I’ve lightened up this classic dish by making them in the air fryer in order to skip the oil, thus reducing the calories and fat pretty substantially. Topped with some zesty marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese, you won’t even know that you are making a healthier choice with these Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes With Marinara.
What If I Don’t Have An Air Fryer?
Don’t have an air fryer? No problem! Baking these in the oven still works perfectly. Just arrange them on a baking sheet (if you have an oven safe cooling rack, you can use that as well) and bake at 425 degrees for about 12-15 minutes, making sure to flip halfway through.
Will Red Tomatoes Work In This Recipe?
Happily, yes! While green tomatoes have a bit of a tart element to them that I love, red tomatoes will work just fine in this recipe.

How To Make These Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes
Slice the tomatoes into slices that are about 1/4 inch thick. Salt the tomatoes on each side and let them hang out for about 10 minutes. This pulls out some of the water from the tomatoes, which helps prevent them from getting soggy. After the 10 minutes is over, use a paper towel to pat them dry.
While the tomatoes are doing their thing, I like to go ahead and set up my dredging station. I grab three plates and fill one with all purpose flour, one with a whisked egg, and one with panko bread crumbs, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
Finally, I go down the assembly line, coating each tomato with flour, then egg, and then panko. I bake them in an air fryer at 400 degrees for 12 minutes, making sure to flip halfway through.
To serve, I place the tomatoes on a plate and top with marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese.
